You wanted What???

After the mayhem of our children trying to open all the presents at once, we asked Myles if he enjoyed his Christmas presents from Santa. We are nestled in between the wrapping paper, ribbons, toy boxes and clothes everywhere. He looks over at Jeremy and announces that Santa forgot one thing. And he is real serious. "Dad, he forgot my remote control airplane." "What?! Did you ask him?" Jeremy looks over at me with those eyes of 'Did you know about this?' 'What do you think? I would have told you if I knew myself?',was the reply of my eye. "Myles, did you ask Santa for one?"
"Yeah Dad!," rolling his eyes at him, " I asked himand he didn't bring it." Jeremy's eyes look at me again with,'what do i say?' 'You're dealing with this one,'was the reply of my eye.

A Vet's Waiting Room

A vet's room waiting is nothing short of an amusement park of smells, scents and other dog's privates for Toby. I had to take him back in. Nothing can be simple with him. He's having serious issues with infection and swelling from his neutering. Due to the fact he won't stop licking and frolicking. Here I am in the vet's waiting room using all my 115 lbs to hold back a 75lb dog. Oh the smells and scents for my dog to investigate. Somehow I am managing the car seat, my rambunctious Sammie, and the reincarnated "Marly"...my dog Toby. I'm thinking,"Okay..I think I can handle this. It's not so bad"...UNTIL..the German Shephard, the Pit Bull, a really big curly dog, and 3 other dogs that walk in all at once. Oh My Gosh! I am sitting in the chair, bracing myself, the car seat is in my lap, Sammie is climbing on top of me, and Toby takes off. He is literally dragging us across the floor. He feels it is God given right to greet every doggie that comes through the door. It is obvious to everyone that I can't control my dog. This battle between me and Toby goes on for 20 minutes. I'm praying the aids will call our name. "Hurry! Hurry! Please call us back!"
Once in the exam room, the vet asks me,"This hematoma is really bad. And it's starting to get infected. You were suppose to keep him from running and licking himself. Didn't you do that?" "I did all I could ma'am. You see..my dog is one of kind..." Interupting me, she says,"Well, you definetly need antibiotics and an e-collar." "You mean one of this big white round things?" "Yea. THat will stop him from licking." I'm looking at her sideways,"Um..I don't know if that will work. You see..Toby can demolish anything. I mean everything and anything in sight.." and the vet is out the door. I ask the aid if there is something better. "No Ms. Jessop. This works really well. You'll see." I'm thinking, You don't know my dog. This isn't going to work. "Well, can I get two of those. Just in case he gets out of it. " "Well, Ms. Jessop, you can buy another if you think it is neccesary." At $20.00 a collar, I decided that I will make only one work-unless it is absolutely not repairable.
Exhausted, I drive everyone home. I leave Toby in his corner while I attended to my darling Evelyn. She's crying and upset. She finally had her first blow out. Poop is everywhere!!!! We've been home maybe 5 minutes. As I was running to get more wipes, I see Toby out of the corner of my eye:

So much for the $20.00 collar!!

A Few Good Laughs!

AS of yesterday, Toby was neutered. We finally did it!! As we were driving to get Toby, Myles, my curious one who needs to know everything, asked what kind of surgery Toby had. "Well, he was getting too hyper, so we had to take his boy parts out." The questions came fast. "How? Why? They cut him open? Did it hurt? How did he get to sleep? Can he pee?" As I lead my doped up dog to the van, Myles looks down between his legs. A look of horror washes over him!
"Mom, they took his balls out!!! Is Toby a girl now??!!"

We recently rented a cabin at ChickaSaw state park. We had arrived late in the evening and was unable to check-in and speak with anyone. As we approached our cabin, a big red signed greeted us, "NO PETS ALLOWED!!!" Oh Crap! My heart sank. We are in big trouble! Yes, we had brought the infamous Toby Wan Kanobe! Jeremy and I were discussing back and forth about what to do and the big trouble we could be in. We had planned on eating at the local buffet that features fine southern cusine. Once we Toby was settled in his kennel, we locked the door with the big red sign and walked away. Instantly Toby announced his displeasure at being locked up. His barking was loud and impatient. Jeremy and I had one thought,"lets get out of here before we are discovered."
At the restaurant, which was within walking distance, Myles announced to the waitress and the only other table that we had broken the rules. I was at the buffet helping myself to some fine southern fried catfish and black-eyed peas. My heart sank as I heard from my sweet, honest little boy:
"Do you know what? We have a dog. His name is Toby and he's in the cabin. And do you know what? The sign says no pets allowed. And do you know what? We are in BIG trouble!"
Jeremy's head hung low and his shoulders shook with laughter. I had to pick my jaw up from the floor and wonder,"Does this old lady without any front teeth have any connection to the caretakers?"

Samantha hs been very resourceful lately. She has figured out a way to get a facial for only 0.99 cents! No joke! On the way home from school the other day, she found a tube of lipstick that did the job. Even her baby doll was lucky enough to get the same deal. Too bad I missed out! A 0.99 cent facial is pretty cheap!

We were so blessed to have my parents come visit us. We blessed Evelyn and my Dad came to be a part of it. AND...he didn't even get airsick!! My mother came prepared with several "barf bags"! We had so much fun just hanging out and enjoying one anothers company. We spent an afternoon at Herb Parsons Lake and ended up with some darling pictures. ENJOY!

In ONE Week

In one week, only 7 days, Toby destroyed the roof of our playcenter (the heavy, thick, vinyl kind), shredded Jeremy's grill cover ($40.00-and this is the second one), dug another hole to the neighbors yard, tore a window screen to pieces, and figured out a way to get out of his kennel!!!! I'm not joking, this dog is out of control and I am so ready to get rid of him. I am in AWE that he can climb ladders and unlock his kennel. Toby is too smart for his own good. What do I do?

BATHROOM TALK

I'm sitting down, nursing Evelyn, when I hear this conversation from the bathroom.
"OOhh! That one hurt!" cries Sammie, "That was a big one!"
"Let me see, Sammie!", says Myles, as he climbs down from the bathroom countertop.
"OH, that is a big one, Did it hurt?"
"Yes it did Myles!"
"Sammie, have you ever touched poop?" (My ears really perk up).
"No. Have you?"
"Yes, it kinda feels like cheese."

TWO OF A KIND

Our Sammie is alot like her Aunt Maria-who she loves and adores. They both have an infectious laugh that begs for you to join in. Samantha reminds me of my sister Maria-the young and the old! Beautiful, big, blue eyes and a smile that brings happiness and love wherever they go. Both have alot of energy for life and it's hard for me to keep up with them. They have such a happy go-lucky personality-they just want to enjoy life for what it is. I might add, don't get on their bad side. :-) I have found myself calling Samantha, "Maria" when she has given me "The Look"! (My mom knows exactly what I'm talking about) Both are stubborn and determined to figure things out on their own-and that what makes them so loveable. We love our Aunt Maria and are so grateful she came to my rescue and help me get back on my feet. So, here's a song for the two of you. Samantha loves "Pocket full of Sunshine".

Our Beloved Papa

As of October 4th 10:00 am time stood still at our house. All activities stopped and the calender was ignored. It was at that precise time that I called 911. Grandma Jessop had called me over to check on Papa. "I just can't seem to wake him, Angela. Please come over." My heart skipped a beat and I knew something awful had happened.
Our beloved Papa had passed away in his sleep, laying next to the love of his life. It was sudden, unexpected and heartbreaking. Time stood still for the Jessop family as arrangements were made, goodbyes were said, and the grieving began. He was dearly loved and will be sorely missed.
I was only his daughter-in-law, but he treated me like one of his own. Our children adored him. He showered them with love and candy, and I know they will miss both. Jeremy is heartbroken and I feel he hasn't had a moment to truly grieve. So many responsibilities now.
Papa was truly a great and generous man. I looked up to him in so many ways, never complaining, always smiling, a loving husband and father. He has sacrificed so much for his family and I know he wouldn't have had it any other way. I've learned and enjoyed watching him help his dear wife, Yula, recover from her stroke. True love is watching a man putting curlers in his wife's hair, so she can look beautiful.
Life does go on and so the clock has started ticking again. The calender has been reevaluated and now we ask ourselves, "Was it all a dream? Did it really happen? Is it really Oct. 15th? What would Papa do?" He would continue on with a smile on his face.

How Thoughtful!

I do declare that I have the sweetest boy around. Myles has always been one to please and help me. Since Evelyn's arrival he has magnified that 100%. Rarely complaining and being very careful with my aches and pains. Recently at the dinner table he volunteered to say the prayer. Jeremy reminded him to thank Heavenly Father for our new baby sister. Sometimes I wish I could get inside the heads of my children as they are thinking and understanding the world around them. As Myles proceeds to pray, he surprised us with "and please bless Evelyn that when she grows up and is 16 years old, she can be a Mamma like my Mamma." (My eyes pop open!!) And to make sure God heard him, he says it again, "when she is 16 years old help her be a Mamma also." (Now Jeremy and I are looking at each other, suppressing the giggles and surprise). As we start to eat, he turns to me, "Did you hear what I prayed for?" He reaches out to hug me, one of those heartfelt ones he gives. "I prayed that she can be a Mamma like you." What a compliment to me, but please, dear God, not at the age of 16. "Very thoughtful of you Myles, very thoughtful!"

Big Sister, Little Mamma

Samantha, curious little girl, has been watching me nurse Evelyn. As usual, she is full of questions. "what are you doing? how come? can I do that? is she going to fall back asleep? do i have chests like that?" After I thoroughly answer all her questions, she's satisfied and runs off to play. Several hours later she shows up with her new baby doll "firmly attached" to her "chests". I'm grinning ear to ear as she tells me that she is "breasting her baby". "Just like you Mamma! I'm breasting my baby just like you!"

EVELYN LOUISE JESSOP

Our little girl joined our family Sunday @ 1:24am. She weighed 8lbs, measured 20 inches, and has a head full of dark black hair. Both Jeremy and I did a double take. We have two tow heads with very little hair. She is adorable and so sweet. We are doing fine. The children are adjusting well. They would inform you that their favorite part are her "toadies" (toes)!! Myles was instantly captivated by their minature size.

NO OTHER DOG LIKE TOBY

So, many of you know the frustrations I've had, and still having, with our AKC certified purebreed chocolate lab, Toby Wan Kanobe. I believe there is no other dog like Toby, anyone is welcome to prove me wrong. We recently purchased a $125.00 (ouch) shock collar to help with the obediance training. (By the way, this is my last resort, if this doesn't work, he's gone!) One of his latest works of art is our fence. There is now a new hole(in the fence) that leads to our neighbor's yard. Needless to say, they aren't too pleased about that. So this shock collar is suppose to stop them in their tracks. Following the directions, we start out on the lowest setting. Toby would remain hyper. We bumped it up a notch, he got more hyper, another notch, and a new level of hyperactivity. I'm beginning to think my stick worked better than this shock collar. So we took it up another notch and still (we thought) nothing is happening. Until Myles informed us that his "peepee kept turning red". From day one, Myles has been curious about his boy parts. Then it dawned on Jeremy and I, we were , um, "turning him on" , if you know what I mean. So much for the shock collar. I've called it the "$125.00 turn on". We've had to turn it up fairly high, so we will see what the next few weeks will bring.

We've survived!

Our little man has survived the first few weeks of Kindergarten. It has been quite an adjustment for him and his parents!! His teacher is as sweet as can be and is really good for Myles. On his first full day of school, he disappeared after I woke him up. I found him behind the couch, scared and sad. Come to find out, he didn't know who he was going to eat lunch with. Then it dawned on me we wouldn't be eating lunch as a family anymore this year. I nearly started to cry with him.
On an exciting note, he lost his first tooth!!! It has been loose for several weeks and finally last night at dinner, it just came out. Unfortunately, he lost it within an hour. The only that really seemed to care was me. I wanted to keep it. You know, for those motherly sentimental reasons. Each day I watch him walk into that school, so big and yet so young and small. A piece of my heart breaks and the tears have come freely these past 2 weeks. The last 5 years are gone. Those baby days are over and now he wants to be a big boy. I cherish every moment he is home from school now.

Our Kindergartner

It is official! Myles and I registered him for school today. On Friday we are suppose to receive a phone call to know who his teacher is, which classroom and which day he will start. The first week of school, he'll go one day. After that it's a full time job for him, 9am to 4 pm. My little independant boy will be tuckered out. He is very excited!!! When he came to the breakfast table this morning, he had on his new school pants with his new school shirt tucked in, completed with his church belt. After I told him how handsome he was, he said," Today's school mom. I gotta wear my school clothes!" Meanwhile he's rolling his eyes and holding his hands out as if I should've known that is what he was going to wear today. (I didn't tell him to get dressed, nor did I tell him what to wear). I guess it's started, Moms don't know anything.

Hot Summer Months

I think the only way we will get through these 100 degree days is by staying wet. Thank heaven's for the sprinkler park and the Weldele's pool. We are enjoying our summmer days by sleeping in, Summer Kids film festival @ Malco, Concerts on the Square and lots of ice cream cones and popsicles! Although school starts soon, we will still be in summer weather.
I think my favorite memory so far is finding Sammie and Myles stripped down to their "undies" and frolicking with Toby with the garden hose. When I asked what was going on, the replied, " It's just too hot mom!" All I could do was grin and tell them to have be careful. Isn't that what summer is all about?

A new Dog!!

It has been some time since I've written about Toby. With daily training, we've gotten him to sit, lay down, stay, and let us walk him (instead of the other a around). He still chews like a maniac. We are still working on that one. The kids and I disappeared to Utah for a week and we came back to a dillusional dog. He kept staring at the ceiling and walls, as if something was going to jump out at him. I consulted Jeremy and he said that He and Toby kept busy with a laser he brought home from work. He would shine it on the walls and ceiling and Toby would go crazy and would wear himself out chasing it. He has also discovered Baby Einstein. He freaks out and thinks the puppets are going to attack him. Our little disobediant puppy has turned into a 65 lb dog that is psychotic and somewhat obediant. Where will we be in 6 months from now.

DOGS DO WHAT DOGS DO

The latest victim of Toby's is Myles' bike seat. Unfortunately, his fancy bike seat that matched his bike (flames and all) has been torn to shreds. The bike is still ride-able, but not comfortable. Jeremy and I were so upset, but we didn't know what to do. Toby just stood, tail wagging, grinning from ear to ear. He was so proud of his accomplishment. We also have torn up door jams, corners of my cupboards have been re-antiqued, princess doll heads are missing, the weather stripping of our backdoor/garage door is gone, bike helmets have been reshaped, and he has now broke his leash THREE times.Oh..any camp chair that has been left out no longer has a cup holder. And why did we get him? All for the many reasons of having a family pet. Namely, the love and devotion I have seen Toby give these children and the love and caring nature I've seen in my children. We sure love that rascal. But what am i going to do about a new seat with flames?

KIDS DO WHAT KIDS DO

So, we're at the dinner table & Sammie continues to put her hand in her water, then lick her hands. I keep getting after her, "Sammie, that's not good manners. Besides, (I'm just remembering, that I failed to have them wash their hands) you don't know where your hands have been."
Myles pipes up, "I know where her hands have been." (Sammie takes another lick.)
"Oh, yeah, where?"
"In dog poop." (Sammie takes another lick, I choke on my food.)
"WHAT?!! ARE YOU SERIOUS?" Sammie dunks her hand again and Myles tells the story.
"Yeah, we were really brave and picked up all the dog poop and made a pile of it."
Sammie (hands in water)"yeah, and we covered it with sticks in the hole. I was really brave."
"Did you do this with a shovel?"(I knew what the answer really was.)
"NO." (In unison)Showing me their hands, "We did it with our hands. We were brave. Are you proud of us Mamma?"
"Oh, I'm proud alright, but also grossed out. We never touch dog poop with our hands." In an instant I had them in the bathroom, and I scrubbed their hands. And yes, Samantha got a new glass of water.

Easter has come and gone and what a wonderful time we had. The children enjoyed an Easter Egg Hunt in their own backyard and then another one at Papa's. All the children looked so cute in their new clothes. Toby has become sneaky at taking candy that has fallen from little hands. (He thinks he deserves a spot at the dinner table too.)

March came in like a lamb and has left like a Lion. We've had storm after storm after storm. The first two games of the soccer season has been cancelled. There is only one reason I"m glad for that, I"m the coach and I really don't know what I"m doing. I want to put it off as long as possible.

I love spring because everything is starting to turn green, the tulips are blooming and the weather is perfect for bike riding. This time of year always brings renewed energy for living and playing.

ALL ON HIS OWN

When Jeremy came home from work Wednesday night, he found Myles waiting for him on the driveway in his Lance Armstrong bike jersey. He announced to Jeremy that he has been waiting all day to go on a bike ride with him. So away they went around the block a time or two. Once they were back, Myles immediantly headed to Jeremy's workshop. He started to look through the tools. Jeremy, curious as to what he is up to, followed him.
"Myles, what are you doing?"
"Dad, it's time to take my training wheels off." (Real serious like)
"OH, well then..." and Jeremy (chuckling) proceeds to teach him how to take his training wheels on and off. He can now do it on his own.

What are they thinking?

I cannot figure out for the life of me why my children choose to use Wal-mart or Home Depot as their dumping station!!! It never fails. Whenever we head out the door, we go through the ritual of using the potty, getting drinks of water, and whatever else so that I don't have to deal with it at the store. We weren't even 10 minutes in Home Depot today and Myles announces he needs to go the bathroom. I'm thinking," We just went, I'll hurry, and we'll go home." WRONG! Myles begins jumping up and down, and shouting,"I need to go number 2, MOM!" By now people are looking. So we go to the restroom. I have no difficulty finding it since we visit their restroom every time we shop. Our bathroom visits to Home Depot usually consist of Samantha touching everything in sight, Myles singing at the top of his lungs and only takes a break when he wants to describe what just went in the toliet, and I'm trying to stay calm. You should see the looks and chuckles I get from other woman. 30 minutes later we exit to continue our shopping. We get to the isle we were previously in, and guess who announces she needs to go? I even tried to get her to go. After 5 minutes of yanking on my arm, I give in and we spend another 30 minutes in the bathroom. Why does it have to take them so long? I"m thinking,'Git in there -n- git er done!" So after a very eventful visit to Home Depot's restrooms, we left. I wasn't giving them another chance.

Our Little Princess

Our Little Princess turned 3 in December and what a "ball" we had! My living room was a sea of shiny, glitter, twirling dresses complete with giggles and high-pitched squealing! I loved every minute of it. Samantha is all girl and can't wait to have her ears pierced so she can have "pokey things" in her ears like Mommy. She truly has been a delight and joy in our lives and I'm looking forward to many more birthdays with pink shiny stuff! Here a few pictures of her with her friends.

Toby the Dog

We finally went over the edge and bought a dog. Per Jeremy, it had to be a purebreed. We've got ourselves an AKC certified chocolate labrador retriever. And let me tell you, he is AKC certified to chew on everything in sight! The children have learned to keep their slippers on, lest their toes become his next victim. And there is no more running around barefoot in the backyard, because I don't think I have the stomach to clean dog poop off little toes. Oh, and have I mentioned the spots on my carpet? A few weeks after getting him, I noticed dark spots all over my carpet in our computer room. Toby is only allowed in the kitchen and computer room. At first I couldn't figure out what it was coming from, and then I noticed Toby walking around, hangin' loose with urine just dripping from you know what. AND he did not care. That is such a boy thing. Luckily I had planned on removing the carpet, this will just speed up the process.

Jeremy is proud of his pure breed and so is Myles. We don't even have to ask Myles to help us take care of him. He wants to do it. He loves that dog and Toby loves him. I think they will grow up to be best buds. Sammie is finally accustomed to having Toby greet her with one of those big knock-her-over hugs. At first she'd scream bloody murder. Now she just lays there quietly on the ground (Toby straddling her-his way of saying hello) and waits until I rescue her.

Despite all the work, we love our new addition. I wonder what he'll think of our next addition. Thank goodness it will come with diapers.
